Your files are never transmitted to any server — they live only in your device's local memory while the tab is open. When you close the tab, they are gone permanently. This is a technical design choice, not just a privacy policy.

No. We have no backend server, no database, and no ability to receive or store any of your data. All processing happens locally in your browser. We literally cannot see your files even if we wanted to.

We use only essential, anonymous analytics to understand general usage patterns (e.g. which tool is most used). We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or any cookies that identify you personally. Please see our Privacy Policy for full details.

Yes. Because all processing is local to your browser and nothing is uploaded, using this site is safer than using many popular online tools that do upload your files to cloud servers. Your Aadhaar card, PAN details, and other sensitive documents never leave your device.

No. We do not collect personal data, and we do not show advertisements. We are an independent, self-funded project with no revenue model that depends on your data. We build these tools because we use them ourselves.

For NSDL and UTI PAN card applications:

• Photo: 213 × 213 pixels, maximum 50 KB, JPG format
• Signature: 560 × 90 pixels, maximum 30 KB, JPG format

Common reasons for rejection:

• File size exceeds 50 KB (even 51 KB will fail)
• Dimensions are not exactly 213 × 213 px
• Background is dark, patterned, or not plain white/light blue
• Face is not front-facing, eyes are closed, or there are accessories like sunglasses
• Wrong file format — portal requires JPG, not PNG or WEBP

NSDL and UTI guidelines require a plain white or light blue background. Avoid dark colours, patterns, or busy backgrounds. If your photo has the wrong background, use our Background Remover tool to replace it with white before resizing.

Yes. A modern smartphone camera produces photos of more than sufficient quality. Make sure: the photo is taken in good natural or indoor light, the background is plain white or light blue, and the face is clear and front-facing. Then upload it to our PAN Photo Resizer to get the exact required dimensions and file size.

Both NSDL and UTI follow the same specifications: 213 × 213 px, under 50 KB for the photo and 560 × 90 px, under 30 KB for the signature. Our PAN Photo Resizer produces output that meets both portals' requirements.

Regular clear prescription glasses are generally acceptable. However, sunglasses, tinted lenses, and reflective glasses are not allowed. Your eyes must be clearly visible. When in doubt, remove glasses — NSDL and UTI may reject photos where eyes are obscured.

Limits vary by portal, but common limits are:

• NSDL / UTI: 500 KB – 1 MB per document
• Income Tax Portal: 2 MB for supporting documents
• UIDAI / Aadhaar: 1 MB for scanned documents
• DigiLocker: 10 MB (more generous)

It depends on the content. PDFs with scanned images (like Aadhaar cards or mark sheets) typically compress by 50–80%. PDFs that are mostly text compress less. You can compress multiple times if a single pass doesn't reach the target size.

Low and Medium compression settings produce minimal quality loss — text stays sharp and clearly readable. High compression may slightly reduce image sharpness in scanned documents. Always preview your compressed PDF before submitting it to a portal. For text-based PDFs, even High compression rarely affects readability.

Yes. Use the Digital Signature Verifier. It scans your PDF for embedded signature fields and reports how many signatures exist, the signer's name (if embedded), and the signing date. Note: this tool detects signatures — for full cryptographic DSC chain validation, use Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Side-by-side (landscape) is preferred by most portals as it fits the card dimensions naturally. Stacked (portrait) places front on top and back below on an A4 sheet — some banks and HR portals prefer this. Check your portal's instructions if specified; otherwise, side-by-side is the safer default.

Yes. A clear phone photo taken in good lighting works fine. Make sure: the card fills most of the frame, all four corners are visible, the text is readable, and there is no heavy glare or shadow on the card. Avoid cropping the card before uploading — let our tool handle the layout.

The standard Indian passport photo size is 35 × 45 mm (width × height). For the Indian Passport (MEA), the requirement is 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). Our Passport Photo Maker supports both sizes — select the correct preset before generating your sheet.

Download the generated PDF or PNG from the Passport Photo Maker and take it to a photo studio or printer. Ask for it to be printed at 300 DPI on 4R or A4 glossy photo paper. Do not let the printer scale or fit-to-page — print at 100% actual size.

Yes — the Background Remover uses an AI segmentation model that runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. The AI model is downloaded once to your device, after which it processes images locally without any internet connection. No image is ever sent to an AI cloud service.

AI background removal works best when there is clear contrast between the subject and the background. For better results: use a plain, single-colour background when taking the photo, ensure good lighting without heavy shadows, and avoid very curly or flyaway hair if precision is critical. Minor edge imperfections are usually not visible in small government document photos.

All photo tools accept JPG, PNG, and WEBP as input. Output is JPG (for portal submissions) or PNG (for transparent backgrounds). The PAN Photo Resizer always outputs JPG to match NSDL/UTI portal requirements.

You can use a high-quality selfie taken in good lighting with a plain background, but avoid the typical selfie angle — hold the phone at eye level, keep the camera straight (not from above), and use the rear camera if possible, as it is higher resolution. For PAN card photos specifically, guidelines require a neutral expression and both ears visible, which can be difficult with a selfie. A photo taken by someone else gives better results.

You can upload photos directly from your phone's camera roll or take a new photo using the camera. The Background Remover may take slightly longer on older phones due to the AI processing load.

No. Sarkari DNA Tools is an independent, privately developed utility website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with NSDL, UTI, UIDAI, the Income Tax Department, or any other government body. We are a citizen-built tool that helps people meet government document requirements.

Your file is erased automatically when you close the tab or navigate away from the tool. Since all processing happens in your browser's memory and nothing is stored on any server, there is nothing to delete — the data simply ceases to exist on the page close.
